I haven't had hands on Iron Clays, but my sense is they're in this tier as well. We still use them for all our euro games.Ĭlaysmith are quite popular as 'my first upgraded chip' and folks often recommend either the "trapezoid, "12 Stripe", or "Stick and Triangle" patterns. The colors for $100 and $500 are way too close and easily confused (different edge spot patterns could mitigate this, but this line uses the same pattern across all denominations). I started with 100ct of the Z-Pro line, only to realize the edge spots are almost exactly as wide as the colors which can become confusing especially for the dark color chips. Do be caution about color and edge spots. The price is okay, the quality is fairly consistent, sometimes they're a little slippery. and similar sites have decent pricing and a few less "Casino!!!!" looking options. The low to mid tier are things like the BryBelly Eclipse line. Also, if you're springing for chips you definitely want to have decent edge strips. To my knowledge the "Super Diamond" chips that were popular a few years back are no longer available, or at least what's offered isn't the same quality. They're not amazing, but they do the job and are very affordable and you won't feel bad about their sunk cost if you ever decide to upgrade. The 400ct is enough to cover most 18xx games (though you won't have chips for $500 and above). These frequently go on sale for < $30.00 and last Black Friday were < $20.
